This digital publication was created in the context of a workshop held in Brno in summer 2023.The workshop on the creation of house signs took place on the small square in the former workers' colony. Over the course of a day, residents and passersby gathered around a table to share personal stories and memories connected to their neighborhood—the experiences they associate with their shared space and environment.
Historically, house signs—used as artistic elements on building facades—captured memories of a place, expressed fictional identities of its inhabitants, or served as navigational tools within the city. The newly created house signs in this project reflect contemporary stories and memories, fostering a deeper connection between people and their surroundings.
This publication serves as an alternative guide to the workers’ colony. It brings to life the residents’ direct stories and their house signs, revealing the emerging identity of this former workers’ settlement and its ongoing transformation.
